The Locomotive, sired by Muscle Mass out of the champion mare La Coocaracha, took the lead early in the race and maintained dominance throughout. Hewitt's strategic driving allowed the stallion to control the pace before accelerating decisively in the home stretch. The victory was achieved with a mile rate of 1:55.3 over the 2300m distance, breaking his own Australian record of 1:55.4 set five weeks prior.
